Politicon: Sarah Palin, James Carville Engage in a Debate About Guns

Politicon: Sarah Palin, James Carville Engage in a Debate About Guns

When James Carville sat with Sarah Palin for a Politicon conversation on Sunday, he was polite. He praised her 2008 Republican National Convention speech. He even seemed to sympathize with her for being scapegoated in John McCain’s presidential campaign.
But then he challenged her on wanting to “take back the country,” a common Tea Party phrase that has morphed into Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again,” and their conversation quickly turned into a debate over gun control.
Carville, the Democratic strategist, said to the former vice presidential nominee: “When you say you want to take back the country, what is it you want to take back?”

“I want to take back the interpretation of our constitution that is being wrongly interpreted today,” Palin said.
“Where are we going haywire on the Constitution?” he asked.
Palin’s response: the Second Amendment.
“It is black and white, and we have a right, of course, to bear arms,” she said. “People who can interpret that to, ‘Oh that means not everybody has that right.’ Or to take certain things like ammo, ‘Well that doesn’t apply.’ Or we can get rid of AR-15s because AR-15s weren’t invented for hunting. I say, ‘Yeah, the Second Amendment wasn’t written in the case the moose turn on us.’ Of course it wasn’t mean for hunting.”
Carville, though, pressed her further.
“Do I have a right to possess a bazooka? Do I have the right to have a surface to air missile and live close to the Los Angeles Airport?”
“Well, that is such a stupid question,” Palin responded.
The Palin-Carville conversation was among a number of marquee events at Politicon, a gathering of political junkies with panels, standup comedy, film screenings and art displays at the Pasadena Convention Center.
Carville went on. “I was in the Marine Corps. I have guns. I grew up rural. Why do I need a 40-clip magazine?”
“Well, I hear what you are saying is there are some firearms that you think should be outlaws assuming, and it is a wrong assumption, that the bad guys are going to follow any law and not have that firearm,” Palin said.
Palin had a number of supporters in the audience, which was standing room only at a meeting room at the convention center. But there were also many cheers as Carville tried to make his point.
“I was just asking the question, why do I need a 40-clip magazine rapid fire rifle?” Carville continued.
“You probably don’t in your area of New Orleans,” Palin responded.
“Where would I live and need one? I am not doing gotcha. Actually real hunters, they don’t even hunt deers anymore with repeating rifles,” Carville said.
Palin answered. “It has nothing to do with hunting. It has to do with the constitutional right to protect yourself.”
She added that there “is an assumption that more laws on the books are going to wake up and convert a criminal, a bad guy to all of the sudden wake up say, ‘I can’t do that, I am not going to do that anymore.'”
But Carville wasn’t finished. “People are going to get drunk and drive, but we have drunk driving laws.”
“This is one of those issues that you are not going to change my mind,” Palin said, as Carville switched topics. “I am not going to change your mind. Because if the Second Amendment goes, that right goes and every right goes.”
Carville also pressed Palin if she had any examples when she referred to the news business as the “lame stream media” — a frequent phrase she uses in speeches and on social media.
She named Katie Couric, who interviewed her in a notorious series of pieces for CBS News in 2008. Palin cited Couric’s recent apology over edits made to a recent documentary, “Under the Gun.”
But later, in a Q&A with the audience, she also agreed that some reporters at Fox News have a bias. “I believe that Fox News has a conservative bent,” she said, adding, “You know what? Thank God for that.”
The first question from the audience came from a ten-year-old boy, Adam Chernick, who also said he was a reporter. Carville asked him to come up on stage, and the boy noted that Palin had said that she “hated” countries that didn’t treat women right and didn’t want them to be part of the United Nations.
Palin tried to interrupt, but the boy asked her to “please” let him finish.
Given her comments about those countries, the boy said, “How come you are endorsing Donald Trump after he said, Megyn Kelly ‘has got blood coming out of her wherever.'”
There were cheers and some laughs from the crowd.
Palin answered, “Donald Trump isn’t sexist. If he were, I wouldn’t be endorsing him.”

Johnny Carson on Jim Garrison and JFK

English: Johnny Carson talks about TV commerci...
Jim Garrison
found this on the PBS website.....it's a bit of an insight into Johnny.......what do you think.....all comments appreciated.......

I use to adore Carson until I heard the blatant attempt to ridicule and dismantle Jim Garrison on his show.

Much of which was proven true (Garrisons claims of a JFK plot) which. Carson could have rectified well before his may 92 departure but chose not to which makes me think that.Carson himself knew the conspiracy was true and could even had known inside info and was trying to paint Garrison as a quack to the American people.

Carson was extremely nervous that night, much out of character.and quite the asshole.

Funny it's not been brought up in documentaries.

Wonder what Carson really knew because it was. Obvious to me Carson was on the defensive and claimed. Numerous times it was a bipartisan interview when clearly it wasn't or NBC. Would not have addressed it the next day due to all the backlash on Carson.

This is a very interesting statement about Johnny and the whole JFK thing......it seems like you have an important point to make.

    • On the other side of it wasn't Johnny also very uncomfortable with any theory out of the ordinary that was not black and white.

    • Wasn't he also famously offended by Uri Gellar.

    • I think there is a famous story about him completely humiliating Uri Gellar on his show.

    • I am also thinking back about Randi.

    • It seems like he also had Randi on frequently to debunk anyone who may have had other than a straight forward idea or existential theory about life.

    • What does that mean about Johnny, O'Reilly seems to suffer from the same disease.

    Your take................

Bill O'Reilly gets that funny Loser Look after James Carville Schools him on Winning Elections

Bill O'Reilly says horrible things every night--how can he still be on television.  Trying to understand not only why he says those things but even more perplexing....why is he so popular.   fortunately President Obama and his ideas are more popular as is evidenced by his last two elections.  One of the commenters suggested Bill may quit for money but it seems like his ultimate goal is to talk and his ego and promoting his life style for everyone and his idea of religion--often his theme is his love of his own cherished Catholic guilt.

Zeke Emanuel stated it correctly actually to him, that when he could use his podium to distribute information he uses it to stir up fear for his own gain...........but really,.....think about it......why..........that's what I don't get.........is he a pure racist at heart?

I really think that he believes that if everyone, of all colors and lifestyles, would simply just listen to him and follow his religious ideas and beliefs everything would be just fine.

Nothing is complex to him....the man is a simpleton.

Last evening he again harped on the idea that President Obama should shut down the Russian financial system....close it down completely......have MasterCard and all banks refuse interaction with Russian money.  First, does President Obama run Mastercharge and the banks........what would an act like that do to the stock market?  He has embarrassed himself many times like when he suggested someone was setting the price of gas and he was going to find out who it was.  Right, he told this to the vice-president of the commodities exchange who had recently written an book and tried to explain to him that the price was set by the commodity traders.

He also refuses to listen when the facts are right in front of him.........he goes on about Beyonce endlessly........seriously, as if he is not enjoying her vids, but refuses to acknowledge the good work of Snoop with his football team in Long Beach.  he shook hands with Snoop at the Kennedy Center honors.........

Wouldn't Snoop know more about the issues of the inner-city than Bill?

What do you think?   Why is he so popular?

Fortunately, we have people like James Carville, on the factor last evening to hand him a can of whoop-ass once in a while--Bill insisted we only need a person like Ronald Reagan with the right amount of charisma, for the repubs to win again.  James suggested it's no longer just the rich old white guys voting now--Bill did have that real funny loser look on his face at the end of the conversation.

James Carville Hands Bill O'Reilly a Can of Whoop-Ass on The Factor Tonight

    Tonight on the Factor.......

Guest James Carville attempts to explain to the "O" man why the repubs have lost the last 7 elections.

    Bill had to argue........

Seriously, as if Bill had actually runs elections and campaigns and James hasn't.

Maybe Bill forgot.......James might know what he talking about on this one......Hello--Bill Cinton did win the election.

Bill tries to hang tough and tells James.....no, its not that we are all old white men out of touch.....its ideology and I admit the young people just do not get it.

James went on.....schooling Bill he mentioned minimum wage, health care, the economy, immigration.........

Bill remained a hard headed student and insisted its about personality and if we just get a good one we can go up against Mrs. Clinton.

James said......Mrs. Clinton will be awful tough to beat.

Bill knew he was handed a can of whoop ass this evening by Mr Carville and he had that loser look on his face at the end of the conversation.

Good job, James, can't wait for my girl Hillary in 2016.

CNN Begs Strombo: Move to LA and bail out Piers Morgan--We'll pay you big time!

He's hot, he's cute, he's a skilled interviewer......CNN is currently in big money negotiations to try and get George Strombo to bail out the Piers Morgan show.

Yes, this is the chance for Canada to finally rule over the Brits.

The big boys at CNN admitted they were secretly kicking themselves in the shins for letting Strombo go and choosing Piers Morgan instead.

Apparently there is a head ready to roll at the top for making this ill-fated decision.

"What in the world were we thinking opting for Piers instead of George--we were blind--we could not see the writing on the wall," an insider from the 24 hour channel confided to this blogger.

We are desperate--we don't know what to do--we have got to find someone that people will watch, and we think George fits that bill.

Well, I guess CNN has finally come to their senses.....looked around, found their head and put it on.

    It's about time, isn't it?

No, CNN big wigs admitted today they loved Piers but they just need someone more hip and more down to earth.

The top dogs at CNN are in a huge fight right now and some are even setting their sights on the man from New York--Geraldo Rivera.

"We are just looking for someone a little more America," a different female executive revealed after pointed questions about the decision.

We want someone who can talk to our people--someone a little more New York with a touch of Brooklyn thrown in.

"You know, everyone really loved Larry--Larry just was not angry--he wanted to know everything.  Larry had that special ability to ask the question and take in the answer without turning the whole thing into an angry bar room brawl.

Geraldo has that same special talent.  Have you heard the people call in to him every morning on WABC in New York?

If it's the angry granny, the man on the street or the big political talkers--they all call in as if they know Geraldo personally.

Just like Larry King, Geraldo is compassionate--he cares for the average Joe.

Yes, it does involve a big paycheck to get the G man over here but, frankly, we needed him and we were glad to do it.

We are proud to have Geraldo Rivera in our stable.

Why all the talk about Larry King.........

Good News--Larry will be coming back to the network, as well.

Now, Larry is going to have a very special new kind of show......

Larry will be interviewing the stars of CNN starting with my girl, Fredrika Whitfield.  Fred is going to tell us all about her family, her famous mom and dad and all about her career in journalism.

Fred will also be talking about her brand new weekend hour long legal show.  Now this will be an expansion of the very successful "legal guys: with Richard Herman and Avery Friedman.  This show airs every Saturday morning with 2 or 3 segments and it has been a runaway hit.  Fred and those boys--they tell us everything about the current issues going on in the courts today.  It is an interesting and informative show.

Larry will also be interviewing Candy Crowley, Barbara Star, James Carville, Mary Matalin, Newt Gingrich, and a really good interview with Don Lemon is coming up.  Fareed Zakaria and Wolf Blitzer will be giant interviews.

The big boy said.....these are the real stars of CNN....this is what makes us tick--it is what the public loves and we are sharing our wealth.

Larry will also do a bombshell interview with Piers Morgan highlighting his relationship with Princess Diana and the media.

The CNN talker said--just listen to Geraldo Radio today--he had Tavis Smiley and Don Lemon talking about President Obama and his recent statements about race and kids.  He had Alan Dershowitz on Kerry Kennedy who Geraldo felt was treated unfairly in her Ambien trial.

No, Geraldo gets all the opinions, says his own and keeps his cool--it makes for good talk and we are going to showcase it and share it with our listeners.  This is a rare quality in media today.

We will also be bringing back George Strombo, too.

Piers and AC tried to shut him down due to jealousy and we have finally put a stop to that.  Well, we finally interrogated them and they were working as a tag team to take over the world via the airwaves of CNN.  We really did not know what was going on but they took off Strombo and just kept running their shows endlessly--the viewers complained and our ratings suffered.  Apparently they had been given medication by the interplanetary leader.  This person appears on the Earth in the physical embodiment of Cher.

Good Luck to Geraldo, Larry George and all the other CNN stars....we will be watching your new show.

    Wemple Talks O'Reilly........

    copied from the Washington Post........

    Erik Wemple

Fox News’s Bill O’Reilly clobbered by Carl Bernstein in faceoff on GOP

    Bill O'Reilly (Frank Micelotta/Invsion/Associated Press)
    Bill O’Reilly (Frank Micelotta/Invsion/Associated Press)
A word of advice to anyone who ever gets invited onto “The O’Reilly Factor” to serve as chum for the show’s name partner. It shows Carl Bernstein, of Washington Post-Watergate fame, demonstrating precisely how to disarm the domineering Bill O’Reilly. As the segment makes clear, Bernstein’s invitation to “The Factor” stemmed from edgy comments he made on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” In hammering the GOP for its tactics on the government shutdown, Bernstein said that the party had “become a rabid organization from the top down. The leadership, it’s cancerous. We have to go back to the party — to the Democratic Party of segregation to find this kind of scorched-earth politics putting the national interests nowhere and putting ideology and ideology above all else.”
Just the sort of stuff that interests the staff of “The Factor.”
O’Reilly ran the “Morning Joe” clip and then told Bernstein he thought those remarks were “unfair.” “I think that was a little bit unfair because the Republican Party is so all over the place on this. There isn’t a consensus in it. I thought you demonized the party unfairly there,” said O’Reilly.
Then the host thus began his prosecution — and Bernstein refused to allow it to proceed. See, O’Reilly’s trick in these clashes is to insist that the debate follow his own agenda, his own touchstones. So he interrupts his opponent and makes them address issues that he stipulates, regardless of whether those issues bear on the larger points. Here’s how Bernstein beat back O’Reilly’s initial effort to steer things his way:
BERNSTEIN: Well, let’s go back to what I said about ideology, which is exactly the same thing you said at the top of the show almost word for word — about ideology becoming secondary to facts and to the national interests. I could have quoted Bill O’Reilly.
I used the example of segregation and the horrible example of the Democratic Party and the appeasement by others in the Democratic Party in the early 50s of the segregationists, the same way the leadership of the Republican Party has appeased this know-nothing fashion that has brought on this –
O’REILLY: All right. But — I think we get your point.
BERNSTEIN: Let me finish, Bill. No, no let me finish. I’m talking about the leadership, meaning Eric Cantor, Boehner who went along with this craziness for a while, McConnell who didn’t say to his party “Stop this. This is hurting the country.” That is rabid leadership. This is what McCarthyism was also about.
Bernstein wasn’t going to get bullied. Resisting O’Reilly’s first attempt to hijack the discussion is critical, because once he has a toehold — once he is pushing his points — it’s impossible to rewind the whole enterprise and recover. The host is just too insistent. Here, Bernstein continues protesting, demanding at one point, “let’s stop here.” Those ploys allow him to battle O’Reilly on somewhat equal turf. The glory of it all is that the segment is pleasant, enlightening and worthy of “The O’Reilly Factor’s” stratospheric ratings. No finger-jabbing whatsoever.
    Watch the exchange here.
